Commission Considers Youth Sports Advisory Task Force

The commission discussed the potential creation of a Youth Sports Advisory Task Force. The task force would consist of two commissioners and one staff liaison, meeting monthly to improve communication and relationships between youth sports groups, understand shared needs, and foster a more coordinated environment. It would not be a governing or decision-making body, nor would it involve funding commitments. Two commissioners, Gasley and Tibbetts, volunteered to serve on the task force.

Recreation and Performing Arts Center Updates and Goals Presented

Aaron Sherman, Recreation Manager, provided an update on the accomplishments and goals for the Recreation and Performing Arts Center for fiscal years 25-26 and 26-27. Key accomplishments include developing a subsidy program for youth participation, completing components of a financial sustainability policy, revamping the special event application process, developing a facility rental brochure, certifying lifeguards in-house, and updating facilities at the Sports Center. The Performing Arts Center had successful events and received awards. Future goals include adopting a financial sustainability policy, implementing a social media plan, identifying service gaps in early childhood offerings, and selecting a new recreation software vendor.
