Welcome Home Ohio Program Expands Eligibility to 120% AMI, Facilitating More Homeownership

The discussion on the Welcome Home Ohio program revealed that the program's eligibility was expanded to households earning up to 120% of the area median income, aligning with current state guidelines. Initially designed for 80% of median income, this expansion was recommended to utilize remaining funds and accommodate more families. To date, 15 families have entered purchase contracts, and the city and partners are using proceeds from completed sales to develop additional homes. This program, which has seen success with new home completions, aims to build up to 28 or 29 more homes.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Controls Building Roof Replacement Approved

An ordinance was passed authorizing the city manager to expend funds to Garland DBS Incorporated for roof replacement on the controls building for digester number two at the wastewater treatment plant. This roof replacement is separate from the major rehabilitation of digester number two itself but is for the adjacent building housing the mechanicals and electricals for that digester. The existing gravel-covered flat roof is at the end of its useful life.

Extensive Neighborhood Improvements, Park Upgrades, and Waterfront Enhancements Detailed in Annual Report

The annual report detailed significant investments and enhancements in neighborhoods and parks. This included programming and communications to strengthen neighborhoods, such as through the CDBG program supporting community centers and cleanup initiatives. Physical enhancements included substantial investments in parks like Churchwell Park (reconstructed), Farwell Park (upgraded basketball courts and new playground), and various park paving projects. Infrastructure improvements across neighborhoods involved tree planting, demolition of blighted structures, roadway resurfacing (Camp Street, West Monroe Street), and the largest sidewalk replacement project in city history. The waterfront category focused on partnerships for a healthy Lake Erie and increasing public access, with notable projects like the groundbreaking on The Landing and planning for Lions Park, as well as the Columbus Avenue reconstruction and Sandusky Bay Pathway construction.

Boat House Building Code Amended to Align with Ohio Standards

An ordinance was passed to amend Chapter 1357, the Boat House Building Code, within the city's codified ordinances. This amendment aims to align the city's building code with the Ohio Building Standards, consolidating definitions and verbiage to ensure a single, consistent standard. The update was reviewed and approved by the Ohio Board of Building Standards and is intended to ensure compliance and consistency in the interpretation and application of building codes for boat houses in Sandusky, a community with unique waterfront structures.
