Recreation Building Construction Nears Completion; Funding and Program Allocation Discussed
The council discussed the progress and funding of the new recreation building and the existing wreck building. Construction on the new recreation building is nearing completion, with utilities, storm drains, curb and gutter, and parking areas being finalized. Interior work such as painting, electrical, and plumbing is underway. The project is on track for substantial completion by the end of June and final completion in July, aiming to be ready for Orchard Days. The existing wreck building at the cemetery is slated for phase two development, including an office, restroom, and parking, with funds available next year. Funding for the recreation building's second phase includes $75,000 from wrap tax and $80,000 from the current fiscal year, totaling $155,000. These funds, allocated for interior finishing, capital improvements, and fitness equipment, have not yet been spent and will be rolled over to the next fiscal year. The allocation of space within the new and existing buildings for various programs like martial arts, cheer, tumbling, and fitness classes was also a significant point of discussion, with a spreadsheet outlining proposed uses and potential conflicts.
