SeaTac Considers Extension of Surface Parking Moratorium to Allow Time for New Code Development
The City Council is considering a request to extend the moratorium on surface parking. The current moratorium, adopted in October 2025, is set to expire in October 2026. However, planning and code development to replace the current code will not be complete until May 2027. An extension is proposed to prevent a surge of development under outdated codes before new regulations are in place, aligning with the city's comprehensive plan goals.
SeaTac Enhances FIFA World Cup Preparations with Focus on Safety, Anti-Trafficking, and Coordination
SeaTac is enhancing safety and preparation measures for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Port of Seattle, represented by Commissioner Sam Cho and Rosa Johnson, presented their anti-human trafficking toolkit, emphasizing the increased risk of trafficking during large global events and the port's commitment to awareness and reporting. The city's Police Department will implement double staffing for match days and surrounding periods, with additional deputies stationed at light rail stations. Pucon Fire is establishing a coordinated Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to manage regional needs, and security officers will be present at activation sites. The city is also working on traffic management, beautification, and an event locator application to manage the influx of visitors.
Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority Reports April Activity and Expands Mobile Health Services
The Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority reported running 448 calls in SeaTac in April, including 280 EMS, 16 fire, and 20 rescue calls. The FD Cares unit handled 20 contacts locally last month. Nationally, FD Cares signed a contract to become the largest Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) provider in the state, moving to a 24-hour model and launching an opioid use disorder treatment program. The Fire Authority also noted the loss of Captain Brandon Miniman and Deputy Chief Jimmy Webb and announced upcoming ceremonies and their next board meeting.
