Planning Commission Recommends Approval for Short-Term Rental at 1309 N. Broadway Street
The Planning Commission considered a request for a conditional use permit to operate a short-term rental at 1309 North Broadway Street. The property is zoned R1, and the Unified Development Code requires a conditional use permit for short-term rentals. Staff recommended approval, noting no written objections were received. The applicants, Mark and Christina Hansen, plan to use the property for Oklahoma Baptist University staff, not for public rental platforms like Airbnb. The permit and license to operate are separate but both required. The commission voted to recommend approval for the conditional use permit.
Community Development Director Updates on Walk Audits and Planner Training
Community Development Director Petty Stephenov provided updates on upcoming events and training. A walk audit was rescheduled to June 10th at 9 AM at Jefferson School (405 West Street), with information on the website being incorrect due to an administrator's absence. A citizen planner certification training, sponsored by OG&E, will be held over four consecutive Fridays starting July 31st and includes August 7th, August 14th, and August 28th, from 9 AM to 4 PM at OG&E headquarters in downtown Oklahoma City. This training is free and aims to educate non-professional planners and decision-makers. Registration will open soon, and attendees must register individually. There were also mentions of a new public fitness facility at Shauny Public Schools near Jefferson School.
