Uptown UD1 Zoning District Sign Standards Modified
The City Council approved an ordinance (Ordinance B) that modifies sign standards for the Uptown UD1 zoning district and associated guidelines. This update is necessary because the existing code gives staff significant discretion, and experience with the first development project highlighted the need for clearer sign regulations. The modified code allows for ground-mounted monument signs with specific requirements for brick or stone bases, maximum height, area, and landscaping. The Planning Board recommended approval of this amendment.
City and Schools Renew Agreement for Police Services at Events
A resolution was passed authorizing the City Manager to enter into a two-year agreement with Tip City Exempted Village Schools to provide police services for various events and functions, with shared costs. The school district will pay 80 percent of wages during these events. This agreement, effective August 15, 2026, through August 16, 2028, is a renewal of an existing agreement.
Council Addresses Concerns Over E-Scooters and E-Bikes
Council members discussed the increasing presence of e-scooters, e-bikes, and e-skateboards in town. Mr. Kessler urged awareness and tolerance for neighbors during the summer. Mayor Rogers and Council member Pittinger also commented on the issue, with Pittinger requesting the city bring back a policy to address the growing problem as it's worsening with the warmer weather. Mr. Mack confirmed that the police department, law director, and city are working on legislation and plan to bring it before council soon, also referencing discussions with other communities facing similar issues.
Hunter Clayton Sworn In as Tip City Police Officer
Officer Hunter Clayton was sworn in as a police officer for the city of Tip City. The ceremony included the administration of the oath of office by Mayor Rogers, with Officer Clayton pledging to support the Constitution and laws of the United States and Ohio, as well as the charter, laws, and ordinances of Tip City. She affirmed her commitment to discharging her duties honestly and impartially in accordance with the law enforcement code of ethics.
City to Participate in ODOT Road Salt Contracts
Resolution C authorizes the city to participate in the Ohio Department of Transportation's (ODOT) annual road salt bid and to execute an agreement with ODOT for the purchase of de-icing salt. This is a standard procedure to secure salt at an early stage to capture current pricing.
