A resolution recognizing June as Pride Month was also passed.
Rosie Garcia Appointed as Director of Fiscal Services
The Board of Education approved the placement of Rosie Garcia as the Director of Fiscal Services. The motion was made by Mr. Crosby and seconded by Mr. Berrios, passing with a 4-0 vote. Garcia, who has over 20 years of school district experience, will officially join the team on July 1st. She previously served as assistant director at Him at Unified School District.

During the meeting, various reports were presented and discussed, including an Office of Civil Rights (OCR) agreement update, a presentation from Options for Youth, and divisional reports from Business Services, Educational Services, and Human Resources. Options for Youth presented its annual performance and strategic focus, highlighting improvements in graduation rates and student engagement. Divisional reports covered operational activities, financial audits, budget development, staffing, and summer programs.
District Recognizes June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month
During the meeting, a resolution was presented and approved to recognize June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month. Mr. Coles presented the resolution, highlighting the opportunity to celebrate the contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals, reflect on kindness and respect, and foster inclusive environments where all students feel valued. The resolution passed with unanimous support.
Board Approves Settlements for Student Due Process Agreements
The Board of Education approved settlement payments related to due process agreements. This included a payment of $64,920 to Style Learning Centers Incorporated for educational services for a specific student, following a prior settlement. An additional payment of $6,000 to Yarnian and Associates APC for attorneys' fees and $5,820 to Professional Tutors of America for academic instruction were also approved for another student's due process settlement.
