Board Approves Personnel, Policy, Student Trips, and Donations
The Board of Education approved several items: consent agenda items A through G, the personnel report including appointments, probationary appointments, lead teacher positions, substitute roles, leaves of absence, and resignations. They also approved a probationary appointment for an elementary teacher for the 2018-2019 school year at the 2019-2020 pay rate. A revised policy 5501, student transportation, was adopted to include pre-K transportation for 4-year-olds. Educational student trips were approved, and a donation of two supply kits from the Kids in Need Foundation, via River Keep Foundation, was gratefully accepted for Knickerbocker Elementary School.
Audit, IT, and Facilities Updates Highlight Operational Readiness
The Assistant Superintendent for Operations and Finance reported on the annual internal audit fieldwork completion and ongoing conversations with auditors about moving up the reporting timeline for more timely and relevant information. The external auditors have begun their work. The Food Service department is preparing for summer feeding, field trips, and senior breakfast. IT is upgrading camera systems in elementary buildings. Facilities staff are preparing grounds and athletic fields, completing spring cleanup, and have submitted all required fire inspections for approval.
Finance Committee Addresses Budget Increases and Project Updates
The Finance Committee provided updates on various financial matters, including a significant increase in the tax certiorari reserve due to appeals that were not budgeted for and could tie up funds for up to three years. They also discussed $170 million in project updates, FEMA studies, the Go Green Initiative, capital outlay, and a $13 million project nearing completion. An internal audit review of fixed asset inventory and food service cash receipts was also mentioned.
District Recognizes Top Graduating Students
The Board of Education recognized outstanding students: April Wang, valedictorian of the class of 2026 with a 98.96 GPA; Anthony E, salutatorian of the class of 2026 with a 98.38 GPA; and Paige Marie Jacobson, outstanding vocational student with a 97 GPA. These students are celebrated for their academic achievements and future endeavors.
District Earns Top Honor for School Safety Excellence
The district has received the Titanium with Honors Level of the Utica National Insurance Group's School Safety Excellence Award, the highest level, recognizing comprehensive safety efforts. In celebration, the district received a certificate and a $500 grant for its school safety program. This achievement underscores the district's commitment to providing a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.
