HRDEIC Collaboration Limited, Focus Shifts to Marketing Support
The commission discussed the joint program with the HRDEIC. Amanda met with Karen from HRDEIC, who did not identify any suitable projects for collaboration but suggested reaching out for marketing and PR assistance in the future. Karen's primary interest was identified as a pet peeve regarding town establishment dates on signs, rather than the town seal project, which was being pursued by the Historical Society.
Rail Trail Signage Project Progresses; Volunteer Efforts Acknowledged
An update was provided on the volunteer work for the railroad and rail trail signage project. A cleanup event involved 26 volunteers, including a church group, who cleared brush and logs. The transfer station provided a container for brush, and the DPW provided one for dirt. Thank you letters were sent to volunteers and supporting organizations. The fabrication of rail trail signs is ongoing, with an expected site visit once signs are ready. The signs are being manufactured by iZone Custom High Pressure Laminate Signs, with final versions uploaded on April 10th.
Archaeology Lab Continues Cataloging Castle Hill Artifacts; COA Exhibit Loan Discussed
The archaeology lab report indicated that approximately seven small boxes of artifacts from Castle Hill are still being cataloged. The remaining materials include soil, bones, and charcoal, with one box of sand hill artifacts still being processed. Discussions included the loan of artifacts to the COA for an exhibit, clarifying the point of contact and potential extension, and addressing concerns about a display case. The possibility of additional Castle Hill artifacts being stored upstairs was also noted.
Commission Reviews Budget Status Amidst Uncertainty; Funds to Be Utilized for Supplies
The commission reviewed its budget status, noting that recent purchases may have depleted remaining funds until the end of June. There is uncertainty about the exact budget balance due to differing information sources. Kelsey will be contacted to clarify the current budget status, and if any funds remain, they will be used for necessary supplies like labels and photograph albums before the end of the month.
Cemetery Tour Planning Focuses on Volunteer Needs and Crowd Management Strategies
The commission discussed the upcoming cemetery tour, including the need for volunteers to portray historical figures and assist with guiding tours. They debated the logistics of managing attendees, considering options like staggered tour times with limited group sizes versus a more open registration. The goal is to manage potential crowds effectively and ensure a positive experience for all participants, with decisions to be finalized with the registration platform provider.
