Route 23 Litter Cleanup Underway
Council President Ada reported on the cleaning of Route 23, noting 46-47 bags of litter were collected yesterday. She stated Route 23 has never been cleaned before and that the town plans to adopt it for ongoing maintenance.
Dan Trout Honored as West Milford Volunteer of the Year
Dan Trout was recognized as the 2025 Volunteer of the Year for his extensive contributions to youth sports and community organizations. He co-founded the West Milford Soccer Organization, served as its first president, and continues as director of training and referees. Trout also initiated the Challenger Soccer program for special needs athletes and has been involved with the Township Recreation Advisory Board, West Milford High School Pride Board, and the Montclair YMCA West Milford Campus Advisory Board.
Summer Concert Series, Camps, and Events Announced for West Milford
Councilman Goodzer provided an update on recreation activities, including a successful kids' fishing derby at Bublin Springs, thanking sponsors and noting contributions from Marcos (pizza) and Elks (hot dogs). He announced the 2026 Bubbling Springs Summer Concert Series starting June 25th with the band Jungle Habitat, and listed subsequent bands and dates. Registration is open for Bubbling Springs membership, Family Frog Night at Westbrook Park, and various summer camps including Lego, fun camp, multi-sport, soccer, and tennis camps. Community Day and 4th of July fireworks are scheduled for June 27th.
County Health Department Reports on Education, Nursing, and Safety Inspections
Laurie Novak Carafello from the Passaic County Department of Health provided an update on health education, nursing, and REHS activities. Health education programs have reached over 20 events in recent months, including nutrition programs, community outreach, and campaigns for breast cancer and heart health. The 'Hike for Hope' event for mental health awareness has grown significantly. The nursing report indicated immunization audits for child care centers and schools are complete, with a 77.65% compliance rate. Screening clinics for seniors continue, and 17 residents utilized free blood tests. REHS inspections included retail food, septic, and well permits, with 155 OPRAS answered. A report on communicable diseases noted 198 investigations with no cases of Ebola or measles locally.
Veterans Park Cleanup Complete; Hazardous Waste Collection Announced
Councilwoman Lichtenberg thanked six high school students for their help with Veterans Park, including planting flowers and cleanup. She also announced an upcoming household hazardous waste collection on May 30th at the recycling center, listing acceptable materials such as paint, pesticides, and batteries, and unacceptable items like explosives and tires. A Scott's Fun Run is scheduled for May 31st.
