Alvin City Council Meeting Addresses Proclamations, Waste Management Update, Service Agreements, and Board Appointments
The City Council of Alvin, Texas, convened for their meeting on May 7, 2026. The meeting included the administration of oaths of office to newly elected officials, including Mayor Gabe Adami and city council members. Following the oaths, the council presented seven proclamations: Alvin High School State Powerlifting Champions Day, Mental Health Awareness Month, Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, Small Business Week, Emergency Medical Services Week, Public Works Week, and Police Week. A presentation was given by Texas Pride, the city's waste management company, providing an update on their services and operational improvements under new ownership by NMS Capital. The council also approved several consent agenda items, including renewals for vegetation management and landscape maintenance services, a contract for janitorial services, an agreement for HVAC preventative maintenance, the purchase of security cameras for the police department, adoption of the 2025 Hazard Mitigation Plan update, rescinding a previous resolution to apply for a catalytic converter theft prevention grant, and calling for a public hearing on youth recreation program standards. Under other business, the council approved an agreement for asbestos abatement at City Hall in preparation for new construction and awarded a contract for electricity supply to Shell Energy Solutions. Additionally, an ordinance was approved to amend Chapter 4 of the code of ordinances regarding animals and fowl, establishing a community cats program and trap-neuter-return (TNR) initiative. Mayor Adami appointed Councilmember Kiko Martinez as Mayor Pro Tem. Finally, Lena Lozano was appointed to an unexpired term on the Alvin Parks and Recreation Board. The meeting concluded with reports from the City Manager regarding upcoming events and holiday closures, and announcements from council members and staff. The council then adjourned into executive session to discuss personnel matters and economic development negotiations.
