Avon Lake Regional Water is establishing a new fund (Fund 708) to manage settlements related to PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), commonly known as 'forever chemicals'. The new fund will be discussed at the Regional Water board meeting and will require legislation for establishment. It is anticipated that the first reading will occur next week. Details on whether the settlement funds will be allocated towards treatment or operational costs are still pending.
Ward 1 Property Dispute Escalates to Litigation; Resolution Efforts Underway
Mr. Shamir raised a concern regarding a resident in Ward 1 experiencing issues with property finalization, specifically related to a sidewalk variance dispute that escalated after a one-year limitation was added to the approved site improvement plan. The matter is currently in litigation. Mr. Ebert confirmed discussions with the property owner's attorney and council to attempt conflict resolution and negotiation to resolve the sidewalk issues and compensation before it becomes a larger legal headache.
Resolution for Emergency Disbursement of Job Growth Incentive Funds Nears Approval
The second reading of a resolution authorizing the finance director to disperse Job Growth Incentive Program Award funds for Tax Share 2025 on an emergency basis is scheduled. This is based on an ordinance requiring disbursement within 60 days from tax day. Mr. Esborne confirmed the award list is similar to past years and is seeking approval to comply with the ordinance. There was discussion about potentially changing the ordinance, with one suggestion to rescind the current one and establish a new program for economic development and honoring a business.
