Milstone DPW Addresses Maintenance Backlog Amidst Event Demands and Equipment Issues

DPW Director discussed ongoing maintenance challenges, including lawns, fields, and parks not meeting expected standards due to time-consuming events like Memorial Day and the America's 250th event. Pothole repairs are ongoing following winter weather, with crews scheduled to work in neighborhoods. Staff is also dealing with equipment issues, including two lawnmowers breaking down in one week, and preparations for the recent election. Other tasks include general building maintenance, generator work, vehicle repairs, tree maintenance in Milstone Park, and tending to new trees planted by a Boy Scout in 'Little Africa'. Efforts are being made to maintain memorial benches in parks, though not all are installed yet. The DPW, with a team of 11-12 personnel, is working to catch up on maintenance.

Buck Mining Faces Scrutiny Over Maintenance Bond Requirement for Permit Renewal

Buck mining submitted a renewal application for a two-year mining permit. The discussion revolved around a required maintenance bond, with the municipal engineer recommending a $100,000 bond. This recommendation was based on a drawdown on a previous bond to allow for paving in 2025 and concerns about repairing truck traffic damage on Milstone and Pine Hill roads. Buck mining expressed that a $100,000 bond is excessive, arguing the road's condition does not warrant such an amount, and cited previous assurances that further road work would not be needed. The township committee emphasized consistency with past practices and the need for a bond to cover potential damage from continued operations. Buck mining's representative expressed frustration with the process and the potential for the project to halt if the permit and bond are not resolved.
