Mckenry Machine Company Secures Contract for Snow Plow Repairs
The council approved a quote from Mckenry Machine Company for repairs on a 2003 3-ton snow plow. The initial repair involved a failed hydraulic pump, for which a replacement was sourced. After the pump was fixed, the hydraulic cylinder blew out, necessitating further repairs.
City Approves $1.1 Million Upgrade and Repair for Hydro Unit Number Three
The council discussed and approved the upgrade and repair of hydro unit number three with Thompson Construction for $1,100,000. This includes repairs to wicked gates and a split ring assembly. The repairs involve addressing mechanically failed components, modifying the nose cone to prevent detachment, replacing shaft seals, and repairing a leaking wicked gate with worn bushings. Additionally, the split ring, a 2-inch thick stainless steel tube, will be repaired due to pitting by welding and grinding to ensure smooth water flow. A significant portion of the work will be performed offsite, with efforts to utilize Machinery Maintenance in LaSalle for machining where possible, although specialized components may require different facilities.
City Council Approves Hiring of Part-Time Patrol Officer Amidst Budget Reallocation
The council discussed and approved a motion to hire a part-time patrol officer. While this position was not initially in the budget, finances were reallocated from savings through the replacement of higher-paid officers with lower-paid ones. This reallocation is expected to result in long-term savings on overtime pay for the year. The chief indicated that the hiring process should be relatively quick.
Back-to-School Supply Giveaway Approved for Centennial Park
The council accepted a communication from Amber Lebo of Santa's Elves of Illinois Valley, granting permission for a back-to-school supply giveaway at Centennial Park. The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 25th, from 2 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Adam, who is currently out sick, will be provided with the details to confirm no conflicts at the park.
Variances Granted for Property at 1223 Walnut Street Following Planning Commission Hearing
The council accepted the minutes from the May 27th, 2026 Planning Zoning Commission hearing regarding Colby Urbansky's petition for property at 1223 Walnut Street. Subsequently, they approved an ordinance granting variances as sought by the same petition for the property at 1223 Walnut Street.
