Round Lake Beach Celebrates Community Development, Recognizes Volunteers and Employees

The village celebrated several community achievements and recognitions. The old Kmart property has been sold to Target, with permits submitted for development, addressing a long-standing eyesore. The Lake County Community Pageant, including Avon Township Queens, was present, with Miss Avon Township Sunday Daniels highlighting her 'Whisker to Wings' initiative focused on animal welfare. The 2025 holiday home decorating contest winners were announced, with Ava Yin taking first place. A special Halloween home decorating contest recognition was given to a Countrywalk resident. Four new community ambassadors were recognized: Carmen Carbajal for her English language program for Spanish speakers, Esteban Monteska and Carmen Hernandez for their bakery and community support, and Joe Prindle for his extensive volunteer work. Additionally, employees reaching 5, 10, 15, and 25 years of service in 2025 were honored through a proclamation.

Round Lake Beach Swears In New Officers and Honors Public Safety Personnel

The village swore in two new police officers, Officer Josh Wilkins and Officer Alex Rodriguez, and presented several police department awards. Officer Torres received an AIM award for 25 DUI arrests in 2025 and an internal award for the same, while Officer Placencia received an AIM award for 44 DUI arrests in 2025. Lieutenant Michael Van Bladel was recognized as the Volunteer of the Year for the Round Lake Beach Emergency Management Agency, contributing 156 hours in 2025, including a notable effort to bring the mobile command unit to a December emergency scene. Dave Felner was awarded Citizen of the Year for his consistent and unwavering support of the police department. Officer Bob Ganon was named Officer of the Year for his dedication to community engagement and extensive involvement in various departmental roles and specialized capacities throughout 2025.

Village Council Approves Consent Agenda and Resolution for 250th Anniversary Commemoration

The Village Council approved the consent agenda, which included various administrative items such as meeting minutes, expenditures, agreements for software and communication systems, and special use permits for automotive sales/repair and for property at 400 West Rollins Road. A resolution in support of the Illinois American 250 commemoration of the country's 250th anniversary was also passed. The council noted that events throughout the year would be labeled with the 'American 250' decal. The meeting concluded with adjournment after a brief open public participation period where no comments were made.
